Matthew 6:19-23
God blessed man whom He created to rule over and possess all things (Genesis 1:29-30). “Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food" (Genesis 1:29-30). And it was so. The reason that everyone loves to accumulate wealth, is that wealth is the best inheritance of our body in this world. God, therefore, works freely for everyone. People can accumulate wealth, obtain knowledge by studying hard; and God lets them be in authority by using their wealth and knowledge. But people have made the purpose of their lives the obtainment of physical and mental happiness by striving to obtain these things. There are so many people who have spent their lives in order to have money, power and higher positions; but they have lost their souls, which are more precious than the whole world, in the process. What can these wordly things, which they have obtained at the risk of their lives, do for them? They are absolutely useless when it comes to things beyond natural human limitations. Even though people have achieved the greatest success, if their lives are ended by natural disasters, diseases, or by accidents, their possessions are of no use. The things that we toil for under the sun bring the most miserable disappointment (Ecclesiastes 1:2-11, Luke 12:16-21). Even worldly people know that there is nowhere that they can permanently and safely store their own honor, wealth and lives, especially their lives. But Jesus Christ declared to us that His Word is the truth that we should follow forever. He told us that we should, “… store up for your treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal” (Matthew 6:20). As long as you put your wealth and work in heaven, they will not disappear and no one can take them away from you. They will be your permanent possession forever. Jesus let us become the children of God by the work of His blood, and His Word is the truth which can never be changed. Dear brothers and sisters, suppose today is the last day of your life, where is there a portion for you? Where is your spirit preserved? We should put our spirits and the treasures of this world in heaven. Let us store up all of our days by working for heaven for the time of soul. The Bible tells us, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. Let us seek His kingdom and His righteousness first.
