Without repentance, we cannot meet the spiritual oasis that provides us with life. The eternal drink which Jesus gives can be drunk only by repenting. The benefits of the cross – that come from Jesus’ wounds and his blood – can only be received by those who repent. When we repent, we experience His work that makes our sins disappear, that makes the power of death leave us and that makes the abundant life of Jesus Christ fill us. The blessed feel spiritual thirst. This thirst can be resolved only by God’s words and the life of Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit.
In Mathew 25, five wise virgins waited for the groom with enough oil for their lamps. The five wise virgins were earnestly waiting for the heart trembling shout, “The groom comes!”, with thirst and hunger for the groom.
Just as the five wise virgins prepared enough oil for their lamps, we too must prepare enough spiritual riches to resolve our thirst until the Day that the Lord comes.
Our waiting for the Lord’s Second Coming is the thirst for righteousness. When the Lord asks us in a degenerate age of thirst and hunger for righteousness like this, “With what would you fill your hunger and thirst for righteousness?”, our answer must be this confession, “Amen, Come, Lord Jesus”. “Amen, Come, Lord Jesus” is the expression of thirst coming from members who meet a degenerate age. People who are hungry and thirsty for righteousness in the degenerate age desperately wait for the Lord Jesus Christ like that.
At the very time when Jesus comes to this land again, our spiritual thirst and hunger will be eternally resolved and so overflowing riches will fill us forever.
