In the early years of my ministry, when I interpreted our church members
speaking in tongues, I realized that were praying about problems which
they did not know about.
“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues
as the Spirit enabled them.” (Acts 2:4, NIV)
They were praying in tongues to avoid an accident that might happen tomorrow
or to solve the circumstantial problems which will come to them in the future.
They were earnestly repenting of their sin which they had committed, but had
forgotten to repent of.
Though the person who was speaking in tongue did not know what they were
praying, the Holy Spirit let them pray according to the will of the Lord by praying
in tongues.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what
we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that
words cannot express.” (Romans 8:26, NIV)
Likewise the Spirit himself intercedes for us.
The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. He earnestly wants us to pray.
The Holy Spirit is a hypostasis of the Holy Trinity which is filled with authority
and power.
When Jesus was ascending into heaven, He sent God, the Holy Spirit to be
with us till He comes again. (John 14:26, NIV)
The Holy Spirit wants us to pray and wants to help us.
It’s such a great background for our prayer!
We should understand the heart of the Holy Spirit that we should do our best
to pray according to the will of the Lord casting all our weaknesses on Him.
The wise one will discern what he can do by himself and what he cannot do
in a moment. If you figure out the situation which you cannot overcome by
your own strength, you acknowledge your weakness, and lets the Holy Spirit
who prays for you and lets you pray to pray. Then we can be successful.
