I Have Come to Preach

Mark 1:35~39

35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” 38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. Man was deceived by the devil and sinned, and as a result had to go to hell. But God is love. He didn’t just passively observe man’s dire situation. He sent His only Son to the world to save man (John 3:16). Most people don’t realize that they are sinners and that they will go to hell after they die (Luke 16). They think that they can be happy by gratifying their sinful desires by running after luxury, money, honor and power. But this is the working of the devil who is unseen. People don’t know about the spiritual world, so they are influenced by the devil and commit sin. In the end they will be tormented day and night in the lake of burning sulfur in hell with him (1 John 3:8, Matthew 24:4, Revelation 20:10). Man has been deceived by the devil to commit sin since our first ancestor, Adam. But God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into this world (Luke 5:32, Mark 10:45) in order to save those who were bound by sin and the devil. Jesus was nailed to the cross to pay back the wages of our sin and to deliver us from the devil, sin, curses and hell. He is our only hope and Savior (Isaiah 53:5~6, Philippians 2:5~8). God is an evangelist. His will was to save us, so He sent His Son to this world to die by being nailed to the cross (Matthew 26:37~39). God even refused His Son’s earnest cries before His death in order to save us (John 6:38~40). Jesus, the Son of God, is also an evangelist (Mark 1:38~39, Mark 3:14~15, Luke 4:43~44). He performed many miraculous signs and took away all kinds of suffering by His power, in order to reveal Himself as Savior. Finally, He took up our sins which lead us into hell, and died on the cross, bearing its scorn and humiliation. The Holy Spirit is also an evangelist. Jesus died on the cross shedding His blood to save us from our sin. But how can we know about this? Through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit sent the disciples, early church members and all those who have received Him to preach the Gospel to those who have not been saved. For the past two thousand years He has been working through those who have been saved, even to the point of their deaths (Acts 1:8, John 15:26). Even now churches are planted, missionaries are sent and the Gospel is preached to the whole world. This is the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, if those who have been saved don't evangelize and tell others about the grace achieved by Jesus’ death, how can others be saved from going to hell? Dear beloved brothers and sisters! Unless you become a fellow-worker with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, many people will be dragged to hell and suffer there. We should clearly know why the Holy Spirit has built the church and be an heir of evangelism. We should have the same will as God and save many dying souls (Romans 8:17~18).
