Jesus Might Destroy the Devil Who Holds the Power of Death

Hebrew 2:14-16

God is righteous. Since He is the only one who is righteous, everything against Him is sin and evil. God is also life which lasts forever, because He has no sin. He gave man, a created being, everything to possess and use. There was only thing man shouldn’t have done - he was not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But the first man, Adam, sinned and ate from it and was henceforth controlled by death. Unless the problem of sin could be solved, mankind couldn’t be released from the power of the devil and of death.

Where there is the working of the devil, there is sin; and where there is sin, the devil reigns. The wages of sin is death, and is a great curse. It is impossible for us to avoid the punishment of unquenchable fire in hell, even with all the advances in knowledge and human civilization. We sinned due to the devil, and were cursed to death and hell due to sin.

As long as death reigns over us, there is no hope in the world. Jesus was the longed-for savior who came to the earth. He helped all those who were suffering under sin from the devil by performing miracles. The devil feared Jesus coming to the earth the most, because Jesus came to destroy the devil’s work. “He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work” (1 John 3:8).

So since the beginning of Jesus’ public life and ministry the devil challenged Him. Jesus Christ came here to suffer and eventually to die.”For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45). By His hardship and death, our suffering and death have been removed, and He became our best inheritance. He was also resurrected in three days which proved to us that He had no sin.

The life of the resurrection of Jesus has become ours, for all the suffering and death has been completely removed. He has given mankind eternal freedom from sin, death, curses and hell. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death” (Roman8:1-2).
