Prepare for the Glory in Heaven

Mark 10:35-45

Jesus Christ came into this world to serve man by giving His life as a ransom for us. On the way to Jerusalem, He told His beloved disciples about His death (Mark 10:35), but they didn’t understand exactly why He had to die.

“Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask." What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory." Mark 10:35.

They wanted to be served, but the Son of God, Jesus Christ, didn’t come to be served but to serve. He solved all the impossibilities of this world with His absolute knowledge and power, He taught the gospel to us sinners, and He gave His life as a ransom for many. He came to love and save our souls from eternal suffering in hell (John 3:16).

Jesus was different from the people who are in power, because He lived only to serve. He solved all kinds of unhappiness by raising the dead, healing leprosy and crippling diseases, letting the blind see, the mute speak and the deaf hear and driving out demons (Matthew 11:2-6).

The wages of sin is death, so we had to go to hell and be tortured there forever but He saved us. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Mark 10:45. This is the grace given to us with the utmost devotion by Jesus Christ, the creator and almighty God, who is worthy of all the glory.

Jesus told His disciples “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. Mark 10:43-44. If even the Son of God came only to serve, then we who are only mere beings should not expect to be served before Him, for this is the ultimate in ignorance. Our reason for being born is to serve God and to serve our neighbors.

Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment.” Matthew22:36-37. The life of Jesus Christ started as it had ended – He was born in Bethlehem, the least village; and He died on a cross, which carried a curse. This is how He served us to solve all our current problems and even to save us from hell. “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:5-6.

We are not worthy of being served by the Son of God, Jesus, but He served us in a way that we cannot even imagine. We should follow His example and serve others like a servant. Dear brothers and sisters! Jesus told us “but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared." Mark 10:40

Dear brothers and sisters! Treating others respectfully and making ourselves nothing in order to serve them is the hardest thing that we can ever do. Let us serve others just like the Lord did for the eternal crown of glory. Let us possess great glory in Heaven.
