When the Israelites were in captivity in Persia, Daniel got down on his knees and turned toward Jerusalem to pray, giving thanks to his God three times a day. King Darius really loved Daniel. However, other advisors of the king were very Jealous of Daniel. To kill Daniel, they manipulated the King to issue a decree so anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to King shall be thrown into the lions’ den. Even though Daniel knew about the decree, he kept prayed to God three times a day, just as he had done. He ended up be thrown into a lions’ den. However, God shut the mouths of the lions so they could not hurt him at all. Likewise, Daniel kept his patience and faith. Therefore, he could receive God’ protection.

Everyone fears death. However, when martyrs encountered the crossroads of choosing God or life, they did not abandon God and gave up their lives, just like Daniel. Likewise, those who have faith of martyrdom are not impatient. During the Japanese colonial period, lots of Korean people were persecuted in prison by their faith unto Jesus. Some people could not overcome the torture and disowned Jesus. Some others kept their faith in death threat and eventually died for Jesus. Even though they looked miserable, they received the amazing glory in heaven, beyond our imagination.

Patient and enduring people see amazing works of God. Is your days look dark? We believe that morning comes after night. You will never get impatient if you trust that the God’s providence and plan surely be fulfilled. Therefore, to the end, we should endure with faith any troubles, distresses, and persecutions.
